Jizoku Launches Collaboration with IPB and UNPAD to Advance SRI‑Based Carbon Credits in Indonesia

Tokyo, Japan — Jizoku Inc. (Head Office: Kunitachi, Tokyo; Representative Director: Keiichiro Kataoka) announces the start of a collaboration with IPB University and Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) to promote the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) and develop pathways for generating carbon credits from low‑emission rice cultivation. The initial project will be implemented in West Java, Indonesia.

Together with IPB and UNPAD, Jizoku is conducting joint field studies, providing farmer training, and building measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) approaches for potential credit issuance. The initiative aims to demonstrate practical, scalable models that improve resource efficiency for smallholders while aligning with recognized international standards.

The System of Rice Intensification is an agronomic approach that increases productivity by optimizing plant density, water management, soil health, and nutrient use. Techniques such as intermittent irrigation and improved soil aeration can reduce water consumption and support lower methane emissions while maintaining—or improving—yields.

The representative comment is from our CEO, Keiichiro Kataoka.

Below is his comment:

“SRI is a powerful approach that not only conserves water but also enhances crop yields. Through this pilot project, we aim to achieve both improved food production capacity and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, thereby contributing to the advancement of sustainable agriculture.”

Indonesia is one of the world’s largest rice producers, making sustainable cultivation an important economic and environmental priority. By combining Jizoku’s carbon‑project development capabilities with the agronomic expertise of IPB and UNPAD, the collaboration seeks to generate field evidence, establish bankable methodologies, and create new value streams that can be shared with growers and local communities.
